TEACHING BIOLOGY PROJECT

Fifty  in-service and pre-service teachers from the Western Cape ( including two from Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape) had fun and learnt a lot about Evolutionary Biology at the Teaching Biology Project conference run from 28 – 1 October at Bishops. Excellent presenters made the content far clearer, delegates had the opportunity to try out practicals, to learn more about practical investigations and  to develop resources that they can use in their own schools.  I hope that the teachers who attended find the resources on the DVD very useful  - both those developed or sourced by TBP and those developed by the teachers at the conference. If you attended a conference and do know remember your login code and password to be able to access the resources on the TBP webpage (www.teachingbiologyproject.org.za  please email  Melody  ( melody@agei.co.za)and let her know WHICH conference you attended.

The proposed dates for  2010 conferences are:

CONFERENCE 1 – Monday 29th March – Thursday, 1st April

CONFERENCE 2 – Thursday, 10th June – Sunday, 13th June

CONFERENCE 3 – Friday, 24th September – Monday, 27th September

Please contact Melody (melody@agei.co.za) if you would like further details. Accommodation will be provided at Bishops and the registration fee of R150 covers all activities at the conference, accommodation for four nights and meals at the conference.

Critical Thinking Group

The development of critical thinking in learners is a key curriculum requirement for both the GET and FET bands, the rationale being that people who can think critically will be able to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Below are a number of pictures of teachers attending a training session by CPUT at the Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology.

The project is funded by Shuttleworth Foundation. Read more
